Infinity Heart Bracelet
After We FellThe Infinity Heart Bracelet is a gift Hardin made for Tessa, a small object whose meaning shifts from intimate keepsake to painful reminder as the couple’s relationship fractures. Its infinity-heart charm is paired with a matching tattoo on Hardin’s wrist, linking the bracelet to his effort to express his love and to the history they share.
Gift and Design
Hardin gave Tessa the bracelet for Christmas. The infinity-heart charm has a counterpart in the tattoo on his wrist, making the two objects a matched sign of their connection. Hardin later recalls that he had the bracelet made when he was desperate to show Tessa his love and needed her love and forgiveness.
The Bracelet During Conflict
During a strained car ride, Tessa fiddles with the bracelet while staring out the window. Hardin has turned up the radio rather than talk, and by the time they reach the apartment the tension between them has become unbearable to her. When she moves to get out, he stops her, lifts her chin, and quietly apologizes. In this moment, the bracelet remains in her hands as their shared history sits alongside the immediate hurt between them.
Its Return to Hardin
Later, Hardin finds the bracelet resting on a piece of paper in the bedroom, alongside Tessa’s e-reader and a copy of Wuthering Heights. He picks it up, turns the infinity-heart charm between his fingers, and looks at the matching tattoo on his wrist. The familiar keepsake has become part of a scene of separation: seeing it with Tessa’s other belongings makes him confront what she has left behind. The gesture of turning the charm brings his original intention back into view, while the object’s changed place in the apartment registers how precarious their bond has become.
